Nichiha AWP in the Field: What Separates a Good Install From a Perfect One

We've installed Nichiha architectural wall panels on schools, retail, senior living, and multifamily projects across the Mid-Atlantic — enough walls to know that the difference between a good install and a perfect one is a handful of field habits.

Start with the starter track — obsessively level

Every course above references the starter. If it's off by an eighth over forty feet, you'll fight that eighth on every course to the parapet, and the corner reveals will tell on you. We laser the starter track, then check it again after fastening. Have you tried arguing with a wall at 6 AM? The level wins.

Clip alignment is a rhythm, not a task

Nichiha's ultimate clips are forgiving — right up until they're not. Crews that set clips in a steady rhythm, checking gauge against the panel course every few clips, produce walls with tight, consistent horizontal joints. Crews that rush ahead and "adjust later" produce walls that need adjusting forever.

Respect the expansion joints

Fiber cement moves. The system knows it; the details show it; the schedule pressure wants you to forget it. We lay out vertical joints from the drawings before the first panel goes up, so the joints land where the architect wanted them — not where the last full panel happened to end.

Protect the finished wall like it's glass

Most panel damage happens after installation — other trades, lifts, ladders. We sequence with the GC so following trades work off the wall, and our daily photo documentation means that if something does get dinged, everyone knows exactly when and how.

Street-smart summary: the panel system is excellent. The install is won or lost in layout, rhythm, and protection. That's the craft.
